Stanford Management Company (SMC) is the University’s investment office, professionally managing the Merged Pool and other financial assets to support the University’s academic mission. SMC is overseen by a Board of Directors appointed by Stanford’s Board of Trustees.

The Merged Pool consists of a substantial majority of the University’s endowment, a pool of more than 9,000 individual endowed gifts, generously donated by alumni and friends of Stanford since its founding in 1885, and other financial gifts that the University considers long-term in nature. The Merged Pool supports Stanford’s mission by helping to advance pioneering research, support a world-class faculty, and fund student financial aid.
